The Downtown Timmins Business Improvement Association celebrated a year of achievements in the downtown with a business awards dinner on Tuesday evening.
Even though there was a Blue Jays game on at the same time, more than 100 people crowded into the Tweed and Hickory building for the awards though some die-hard fans brought tablet computers with them so they could stream the game from their tables.
Instead of having a formal dinner for the awards, the event was catered by downtown businesses themselves — creating a truly diverse spread of everything from sushi to fancy chocolates.
The awards given out on Tuesday recognized businesses that recognized the commitment of local businesses to the downtown area and to volunteers who have given their time to the BIA itself.
